Instruments of healing

We each carry many gifts. Intelligence, creativity, empathy, skill. But among them, one stands out as both timeless and urgent: our ability to be instruments of healing.

We are built for it. Our minds can solve complex problems. Our hands—guided by the gift of the opposing thumb—can shape tools, mend what is broken, and create what is needed. Our voices can soothe, inspire, and rally others. We can plan, collaborate, and adapt in ways no other species we know of.

And when we direct these gifts toward healing—whether it’s easing the suffering of another person, protecting an animal, or restoring the environment—the effect is exponential. Healing isn’t just a transaction; it creates ripples. One act of compassion can lift not only the receiver, but everyone who witnesses it, everyone who hears the story, and even the giver themselves. If you want to go one level higher, check my post on How to Give.

The truth is, healing is not limited to doctors or specialists. It is the birthright of every human to alleviate suffering where they find it. Sometimes it’s a grand effort—a campaign, a rescue, a project that changes a community. Sometimes it’s as small as holding space for another’s pain, or deporting a spider from your bathroom, out to your garden.

When we use our gifts to heal, we align ourselves with the deepest current of life. And in that alignment, we discover our real power.

Through loving awareness,

Sami
